Oil & Maintenance
- Air & Cabin Filter ReplacementEngine air filters and cabin filters do different jobs. One helps keep debris out of the engine intake; the other filters air entering the passenger compartment. Chicago Express Auto Service can help you address both without confusing an airflow concern inside the car with an engine intake restriction.
- Oil ChangeFresh engine oil and the correct oil filter support engine lubrication. Chicago Express Auto Service offers oil changes at our South Ashland Avenue shop. The right oil specification matters as much as the interval; the recommended grade and capacity depend on your engine.
- Tire Rotation ServiceTire rotation changes wheel positions to help manage uneven wear when the vehicle and tire setup allow it. Rotation is maintenance for existing tires; it does not repair damaged tires, correct an alignment problem or restore tread that is already worn away.
- Engine Air Filter ChangeThis service focuses specifically on the filter that protects the engine's intake air path. It is separate from the cabin filter used by the ventilation system. Replacing a dirty or damaged engine filter helps keep debris from entering the intake.
- Chassis Lubrication ServiceSome steering and suspension joints are designed with serviceable grease fittings. Chassis lubrication applies only where the vehicle's components permit it. Many newer parts are sealed and are not intended to receive additional grease during routine maintenance.

Brakes
- Brake Inspection & RepairBrake noise, vibration or a change in pedal feel deserves an inspection. A complete brake concern may involve more than pads: rotors, calipers, hydraulic components and drum brake hardware can all affect operation. This page is the overview for our brake services in Chicago.
- Brake Fluid ExchangeBrake fluid transfers hydraulic force through the braking system. Over time its condition can change, and the correct service approach depends on the vehicle's maintenance requirements. A fluid exchange addresses the fluid; it does not replace worn pads or repair a leak.
- Brake Pad InstallationBrake pads are friction components used with disc brake rotors. Pad replacement can be appropriate when measured wear or another inspection finding calls for it. The condition of the rest of the disc brake assembly matters to the result.
- Brake Rotor ResurfacingRotor resurfacing machines a compatible disc rotor to address suitable surface irregularities. It is an option only when the rotor's condition, dimensions and manufacturer guidance allow it. Some rotors require replacement rather than machining.
- Drum Brake RepairDrum brakes use shoes and related hardware inside a brake drum. They have different service requirements from disc brakes. Noise, poor braking or parking-brake concerns may involve shoes, drums, wheel cylinders, adjusters or another component.

Battery & Electrical
- Battery Testing & ReplacementA slow start can interrupt an otherwise ordinary day. Battery service helps determine whether the battery itself needs attention or whether a connection, starter or charging concern deserves a closer look. A voltage reading alone does not explain every no-start problem.
- Alternator Testing & RepairThe alternator supplies electrical power and helps recharge the battery while the engine is running on many vehicles. A charging warning can involve the alternator, belt drive, wiring or battery condition. Testing helps distinguish those possibilities.
- Starter Motor ReplacementThe starter motor turns the engine during starting on vehicles that use one. A click or failure to crank may involve the starter, battery, cables or control circuit. Testing helps avoid replacing a starter when the underlying issue is elsewhere.

Diagnostics & Tune-Ups
- Diagnostic Computer ScanA dashboard warning light is a starting point for investigation. A diagnostic computer scan retrieves available trouble codes from supported vehicle systems. A code describes a detected condition; it does not by itself prove that a particular sensor or part has failed.
- Fuel System CleaningFuel system cleaning is a maintenance option for certain deposit-related concerns. Whether it is appropriate depends on the engine design, service history and symptoms. It should not replace diagnosis of a persistent misfire, a warning light or a suspected fuel delivery failure.
- Spark Plug ReplacementSpark plugs ignite the air-fuel mixture in gasoline engines. Worn or fouled plugs can contribute to poor running, but a misfire may also involve ignition coils, fuel delivery or mechanical condition. Correct plug specifications and installation are important.
- Ignition Coil ReplacementIgnition coils provide the voltage used by spark plugs on gasoline engines. A faulty coil can contribute to a misfire, but similar symptoms can come from plugs, injectors, wiring or mechanical problems. Diagnosis should guide replacement.
- Valve Cover Gasket RepairA valve cover gasket seals the joint between the valve cover and the cylinder head. A worn seal can allow engine oil to escape. The repair addresses a confirmed leak at that joint; it does not restore compression or correct every engine oil leak.

Cooling & Belts
- Coolant Flush ServiceEngine coolant helps manage temperature and protects compatible cooling-system materials. Coolant service replaces old fluid using the correct product and procedure for the vehicle. It is separate from repairing a coolant leak, a failed thermostat or another cause of overheating.
- Serpentine Belt ReplacementThe serpentine belt drives accessories on many engines. Which accessories it operates depends on the vehicle; some use electric power steering or separate drive arrangements. Belt wear, contamination and misalignment can all affect operation.
- Thermostat ReplacementThe engine thermostat helps regulate coolant flow as the engine warms up and operates. A thermostat stuck open or closed can affect temperature control. Similar symptoms may have other causes, so an overheating complaint should not lead directly to a part replacement without evaluation.
- Drive Belt Tensioner ReplacementThe drive belt tensioner helps maintain the belt's operating tension on systems designed with one. Wear in the tensioner, pulley or spring mechanism can affect belt tracking. A noisy accessory drive can also involve other pulleys or driven components.
- Radiator Hose ReplacementCooling-system hoses carry coolant between connected components. Age, heat and contamination can damage a hose or its sealing connection. A coolant leak may also come from a radiator, housing or another part, so locating the source is important.

Transmission & Drivetrain
- Transmission Fluid ServiceTransmission fluid supports the functions required by a particular transmission design. The correct specification and service procedure differ among automatic, manual and continuously variable transmissions. Fluid service is maintenance, not a guarantee that an existing shifting fault will be repaired.
- Drivetrain Component RepairThe drivetrain transfers power toward the wheels through components that vary by vehicle layout. Driveshafts, joints and axles can develop wear that causes vibration or noise. Identifying when a symptom occurs helps narrow the inspection.
- Differential Fluid ExchangeDifferential gears require the correct lubricant to operate as designed. A fluid exchange replaces old gear oil in the applicable differential. Front, rear and all-wheel-drive layouts can have different service needs, and some units require specific additives.
- CV Axle ReplacementConstant velocity axles transfer power while accommodating steering and suspension movement on many vehicles. A torn boot can allow grease loss and contamination, while a worn joint may click or vibrate. These symptoms can also overlap with other drivetrain concerns.

Steering & Suspension
- Steering & Suspension RepairA loose steering feel, repeated bouncing or an unusual clunk can have several causes. Steering and suspension service focuses on the parts that guide the wheels and manage ride motion. The goal is to identify wear in the relevant components rather than assume the entire suspension needs replacement.
- Power Steering Fluid ServiceHydraulic power steering systems use fluid to assist steering. Electric power steering systems do not have the same fluid service requirement. Confirming which system your vehicle uses is the first step before considering a power steering flush.
- Suspension Strut ReplacementStruts are structural suspension assemblies on vehicles designed with them. Wear can affect damping and ride behavior, but a clunk or bounce may also involve mounts, links or other parts. Strut service should follow an inspection of the relevant assembly.
- Wheel Bearing ReplacementWheel bearings allow the wheel assembly to rotate while supporting load. A worn bearing may cause a humming or growling sound, but tire wear and other rotating components can sound similar. Accurate inspection matters before choosing which part to replace.
- Shock Absorber InstallationShock absorbers control suspension movement on vehicles equipped with them. Worn shocks can contribute to continued bouncing or reduced ride control, but an inspection helps distinguish damping wear from tire, spring or mounting issues.
- Tie Rod End ReplacementTie rod ends connect parts of the steering linkage and allow controlled movement at the wheel. Wear can affect steering precision and alignment. A loose steering feel can have multiple causes, so inspection should establish which joint or component needs attention.

Lights & Wipers
- Headlight & Bulb ReplacementWorking exterior lights help other road users see your vehicle and understand its signals. A failed bulb is one possible cause of a dark lamp, but wiring, connectors and control modules can also be involved. Service scope depends on the lighting design.
- Wiper Blade ReplacementWorn wiper blades can leave streaks, chatter or miss areas of the windshield. Replacing the blades is a straightforward maintenance task when the blade rubber or frame is worn. The correct size and attachment style help the blade sit properly on the glass.
Vehicle-specific service
Recommended intervals, parts and procedures depend on your vehicle. These pages explain each service without assigning the same solution to every warning light, noise or maintenance reminder. Call to confirm fitment, current availability and an estimate.
